Monique takes the time to get to know and observe each child as a unique individual, developing a trusting relationship which allows children to relax and make a connection with the material they are learning. Students learn much more than the academic skills which they come for. They also develop a sense of confidence. By exploring tools which encourage: focus, fun engagement with the material, self-awareness to identify obstacles and learning styles, as well as strong communication skills, students are empowered to learn and receive the help they need.
Using hands-on manipulatives, the arts and other individualized strategies, students are offered the opportunity to create new neural pathways which can help them solidify their strengths and experience new ways of learning. Many programs may be effective for some students, but not for all. Academic tutoring at Creative Roots is not based on one curriculum or method, but draws upon several research-based strategies to offer a unique program for each child.
Tutoring is available to kids and families who do not live in the Portland area, please inquire about distance support and learning options. 
Individualized Tutoring
Private tutoring sessions begin with an initial consultation. Monique meets with parents and schedules a time for a 90-120 minute informal assessment. Following the evaluation, Monique works with parents and other support professionals to develop a plan for support.
Summer Tutoring & Study Skill Sessions
Tutoring over the summer can help students maintain their skills, or learn new strategies to support them in school or as additional support for homeschoolers. We offer tutoring sessions for skill building, review and also for pre-teaching to empower kids to approach their next academic school year with confidence. Tutoring is available in all subject areas, with a focus on literacy and math. Private, semi-private and small group tutoring is available.
