Creative Roots offers Professional Development Courses and Coaching for educators, parents and other professionals working with kids. Join us as we look at some of the essential elements of current educational practices and policies which influence our educational practices today. Often schools and teachers are interested in developing their own mindfulness and creative practices. Monique brings her training as a registered yoga teacher and certified creative coach and Academic Life Coach to guide teachers and facilitators towards an increased sense of fulfillment, self-awareness in their teaching, and renewed sense of purpose.

Creativity: New Pathways to Wellness & Learning

Course Description – When faced with challenges, we all develop habits and automatically rely on strategies which we may have developed in our childhood. Learn about how creativity helps us manage difficult challenges in the classroom, at school, at home and in our own personal lives, by opening up new ways of thinking. About the Instructor – A professional educator, certified life coach and registered yoga instructor, Monique Terner received her BS in Anthropology and Philosophy from Boston University, and a dual M.Ed. in Education and Teaching Through the Arts, with an emphasis on inclusive education, from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Monique is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Psychology with a specialty in Creativity.
Monique offers her clients and students over 20 years of experience working with children, parents and educators in public schools, private schools and alternative educational settings. Monique is the owner and founder of Creative Roots, a creative learning center in NW Portland. She is a certified Yoga Calm® instructor and Academic Life Coach®. Monique has studied Interpersonal Neurobiology with Dr. Dan Siegel and Dr. Bonnie Badenoch, and Somatics with Mandy Blake. Monique’s work brings opportunities for children and adults to experience the health and personal wellness benefits of yoga and mindfulness. Currently, Monique is offering classes as an Adjunct Faculty of Portland State University, and offers trainings which can be approved by the Oregon Registry Online (ORO).
Monique brings a unique perspective and integrates the arts, creativity, mindfulness and best practices in education to her training sessions. Participants learn about latest research and experience hands-on practices to use when they return to their classroom or other educational settings. Monique also takes the time to listen to the specific concerns and questions of the staff and parents to customize the teachings she offers.

Perception: How We Experience Life Influences How We Learn
Explore beyond diagnoses, learning styles and protocols to learn how to address some of the different ways children and adults perceive the world. Based on research about Multiple Intelligences, Interpersonal Neurobiology and Somatics, this class will apply current findings to educational practices and help you expand beyond labels and categories, to increase your own understanding of how individuals learn.
Using Yoga and Mindfulness to Guide your Teaching
Join us at Creative Roots this summer for a weekend teacher training institute. This will be an experiential workshop with yoga and creative mentoring, as well as current information on learning and the brain. Learn ways to differentiate instruction for children, learn how to create learning environments that inspire your students, develop skills which cultivate positive relationships with families and professional colleagues, and practice techniques to support your own sense of wellbeing. Come ready to try something new, leave with a sense of renewal, leadership tools, and a practice to take with you in this unique teacher training program which empowers educators to focus beyond state mandates and look at how to best support students, families and themselves. This teacher training is for educators, administrators, as well as parents who are homeschooling their children.
