Creative Roots Days Off From School
Creative Roots offers camp programs on Days Off From School. Located in NW Portland, at 2661 NW Thurman Street, our No School Art Camps offer art activities, yoga, time to play at Wallace Park in NW Portland, before-care and after-care and more. Space is limited to 12 kids. Join us for a fun day of creative exploration!
Hours: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Ages 6-12 (flexible). Older kids, ages 12+ are encouraged to apply to be camp assistants.

October Camps – Mask Making
October 9 – Broadway Musical Masks – Make masks inspired by Broadway musicals The Lion King, Cats, Jungle Book and more!
October 20 – Carnival & Festive Masks
October 21-23 – Learn about and make masks inspired by traditional native masks and headdresses from around the world. Learn how masks are used in cultures around the world, carnivals and theater, and comedy/tragedy.
October 30 – Learn about comedy and tragedy masks, exploring the Yin and Yang of emotions and cultural symbols.
November Camps – Clay & Wood Totem Sculptures
November 11 – Learn about Native totem structures and their use in storytelling and identify formation. Explore symbolism and create your own totem structures out of wood.
November 27 – Learn about Native totem structures and their use in storytelling and identify formation. Explore symbolism and create your own totem structures out of clay.
December Camps – Puppetry & Theater – Winter Break Camps
December 14-18 – Imagination Boxes & Yoga Camp
December 21-24 – Theater Winter Break Creative Camp – Week 1 – Learn simple acting techniques including storytelling, expression of emotions, communication and performance. Write a short script by yourself or with a group of friends and perform it at the end of the week. Each day we will experience cooperative activities and create a variety of arts projects, play outside at Wallace Park, participate in community service activities in the NW Portland area, and take a tour to learn about the NW Portland neighborhoods with Slabtown History Tours. Ages 5-12.
December 28-31 – Puppetry Winter Break Creative Camp – Week 2 – Make a wide variety of puppets in this camp ranging from hand puppets to marionettes. Learn new skills in puppetry making from professional puppeteers. Each day we will make puppets, experience cooperative activities and create a variety of arts projects, play outside at Wallace Park, participate in community service activities in the NW Portland area, and take a tour to learn about the NW Portland neighborhoods with Slabtown History Tours. Ages 5-12.
January Camps – World Cultures & Diversity
January 4 – Native Art of Japan
January 18 – Learn about the geography and explore some of the native cultures of African countries. Inspired by Martin Luther King Day, this camp will support kids to gain appreciation for cultural art from around the world, and how those cultures have influenced American Culture. We will explore music, dance and art of native African countries.
January 25 – Learn about the geography and explore native cultures of South America. Inspired by Martin Luther King Day, this camp will support kids to gain appreciation for cultural art from around the world, and how those cultures have influenced American Culture. We will explore music, dance and art of several native South American countries.
February Camps – Gratitude & Poetry
February 12 – Poetry Workshop
February 15 – Explore a variety of bookmaking styles and make your own books. Kids will read and write poetry to express gratitude.
March Camps – Spring Break Camp
March 21-25 – Fairy & Gnome Houses with Saturday Academy®. Learn about the architecture of Fairy & Gnome homes in this fun & imaginative camp! Each day we will experience cooperative movement activities and create a variety of arts projects, play outside at Wallace Park, participate in community service activities in the NW Portland area, and take a tour to learn about the NW Portland neighborhoods with Slabtown History Tours. Ages 5-12.
March 28-April 1 – Leonardo da Vinci Camp
April Camps – Gnomes and Fairies
April 8 -Explore Forest Park, build fairy houses, make fairies and gnomes in this fun camp. If Fairy’s aren’t really your child’s interest, there will be plenty of opportunities to explore and express their imaginative ideas in this camp!
