Rooted In Connection

Creativity, mindfulness and play: building the foundation for life-long wellbeing and learning
Edit
There comes a time when the world gets quiet
and the only thing left is your own heart.
Learn the sound of it,
Otherwise you'll never understand what it's saying."
 ~ Sarah Dessen

Dear Friends,

I have spent the past several weeks enjoying time with the campers at Creative Roots and Luscher Farm.  What stood out to me the most at each camp was how many campers truly enjoyed taking the time to create, play and relax.  The most frequent request throughout these past several weeks was for more relaxation time, especially during yoga.

We often think that we and, especially, our children need to be very busy and active.  While there are certainly benefits to being active and engaged, the power of creativity, play and relaxation is healing and rejuvenating.  I feel so fortunate to have so many opportunities to spend creative time with kids and adults.  There are few moments as fulfilling as watching kids enjoy the creative process!

I am so excited about our upcoming Fall season.  I hope that you will join us in our many creative, relaxing and playful opportunities, including our Creativity and Wellness Conference on October 18, where many presenters are preparing to share their creative ideas and practices with professionals and families.  We are collaborating with some of my favorite organizations, including Do Jump!, Free Arts Northwest, Marylhurst University, Family Empowerment Network, Courage to Bloom and more!  Click here for more information and to join us.  The Creativity and Wellness Conference will also host a silent auction to benefit Free Arts NW.  Creative Roots is working with Free Arts NW to create mobile art studios in buses, offering free arts programs to youth and families in neighborhoods where art programs are not readily available.

This Fall we will also be at the Slabtown Festival in NW Portland, offering classes in local public and private schools and community centers, offering creative classes and professional development programs for professionals and parents, and continuing our ongoing programs.  We are also looking forward to a visit from my dear friend, Marney Makridakis, who will be in Portland on a book tour for her new book, Hop, Skip, Jump!

We hope to see you soon at Creative Roots!
